| Following extractions or other oral surgeries: | |
| -Bite on gauze as instructed until bleeding stops. If bleeding continues, please contact Dr. Aanenson's office. | |
| -Do not smoke, rinse vigorously, or drink through a straw for the first 24 hours. These activities could disrupt the healing blood clot. | |
| -To reduce swelling, place ice packs on your face for 15 minutes at a time for 24 hours. | |
| -Keep diet of soft foods and drink plenty of liquids. Avoid alcoholic beverages and hot drinks. | |
| -On the following day, rinse your mouth gently with warm salt water (1 tsp. of salt in a glass of warm water). | |
| -If you have prolonged or severe pain, swelling, bleeding, or fever, contact Dr. Aanenson. | |
| Following routine restorations and crowns: | |
| -Do not bite on anything until the numb feeling from the anesthetic has worn off. This will reduce the chance that you could bite yourself. | |
| -Do not bite on a new silver restoration for 24 hours. | |
| -If your bite does not feel like it fits like it previously did, please contact Dr. Aanenson's office. | |
| -If you have a temporary crown, eat carefully in that area. Avoid sticky or crunchy foods on the temporary crown. If a temporary crown does come off, use over the counter denture adhesive to secure it back in place and contact Dr. Aanenson's office. |
